  • Lynyrd Skynyrd Jones Spelled with all 4 y's Was born in 70-something Between "Sweet Home" & "You Got That Right" His mama met his daddy At a Tallahassee show But just like Tuesday Daddy wound up gone on down the road Lynyrd Skynyrd Jones Hailed from Gadsden, Alabama Born to carry on Who his mama was a fan of Don't ask me no questions And I won't tell you no lies That's what she always told him Right up till the day she died Lynyrd wasn't black or white He was somewhere in between Throw in, abandoned and confused And you get the blues when you're just 13 Well he found his salvation In a pawn shop bought guitar You can't teach that kind of pickin' It's got to come right from your heart Lynyrd Skynyrd Jones Hailed from Gadsden, Alabama Called to carry on Who his mama was a fan of Don't ask me no questions And I won't tell you no lies That's what she always told him Right up till the day she died When Lynyrd Skynyrd Jones' Mama passed away A dressed in all black, black man Stood up in the back to say Been thinking about your mama Since that Tallahassee show Yeah son, I am your daddy And my name is Curtis Lowe AZLyrics E Eric Church Lyrics album: "Soul" (2021)

  • Paul_ToMy_Linda: “Lynyrd Skynyrd Jones” is a single released off of the Soul part of Church’s 2021 double album titled Heart And Soul . The song describes a biracial man who was conceived by a couple that met at a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert in the 70’s. His dad had left him and his mother when the man was a young child and he has never met/known his father. When his mother passes away, he meets his father at her funeral, and it sure has a twist ending. The song closes out the last part of the double album. Fans have related the song to a past song of Church’s titled “Lightning” due to the fact that they each tell a complete story within their lyrics." more: genius.com/Eric-church-lynyrd-skynyrd-jones-lyrics

    • Original Song Lyrics by "Lynyrd Skynyrd - The Ballad of Curtis Loew" (original) Well I used to wake the morning, before the rooster crowed Searching for soda bottles to get myself some dough Brought 'em down to the corner, down to the country store Cash 'em in and give my money to a man named Curtis Loew Old Curt was a black man with white curly hair When he had a fifth of wine he did not have a care He used to own an old dobro used to play it across his knees I'd give old Curt my money he'd play all day for me Play me a song Curtis Loew, Curtis Loew Well I got your drinking money tune up your dobro People said he was useless, them people all were fools 'Cause Curtis Loew was the finest picker to ever play the blues He looked to be sixty and maybe I was ten Mama used to whoop me but I'd go see him again I'd clap my hands stomp my feet, try to stay in time He'd play me a song or two then take another drink of wine Well play me a song Curtis Loew, Curtis Loew Well I got your drinking money tune up your dobro People said he was useless them people all were fools 'Cause Curtis Loew was the finest picker to ever play the blues Yes sir On the day old Curtis died nobody came to pray Ol' preacher said some words and they chunked him in the clay Well he lived a lifetime playin' the black man's blues And on the day he lost his life that's all he had to lose Play me a song Curtis Loew, hey Curtis Loew I wish that you was here so everyone would know People said you were useless them people all were fools 'Cause Curtis you're the finest picker to ever play the blues Source: Musixmatch Songwriters: Allen Collins / Ron Van Zant The Ballad of Curtis Loew lyrics © Duchess Music Corp., Emi/longitude Music video: uzfire.info/camera/video/fIvYfp2C1JiZm6U

  • Man this song hits home. Born in 1965 of mixed races and it wasn’t always easy growing up. I wasn’t abandoned but man was I confused for a long damn time. I guess all that’s left for me to do now is learn to play that damned guitar besides the chords! Here’s to you and all the other Lynyrd Skynyrd Jones’ out there... brilliant songwriting Mr. Church as usual.

  • Obsessed with this song

  • Old Curt. He'd do or play anything for a 5th of Wine. He didn't have a care.

  • Well done, EC!!

  • My 13 year old and don't share the same type of music taste but he loves Eric church. At least I did something right as a dad😂❤

  • ❤🔥

  • I think The Man in Black 🖤 would have been proud of you.... Country music's Jesus.

  • I hit like

  • My daughter turned me on to contemporary country music in 2008. Since then I have seen most of the top artists in concert in the Quad Cities/Moline. As a retired music professor, your live performance stands out as my favorite. It was refreshing to see/hear an artist sing from his heart and not just go through the motions. Lynyrd Skynyrd Jones is yet another well-crafted song with meaningful lyrics (kudos to Casey Beathard!). Congratulations to you for your success - I look forward to seeing you in concert again soon!

  • Yes the curtis low verse is chilling

  • Lynard skynard the man who told no lies

  • Great song.

  • If ever a movie is made about my life, they'll only need one stop for the soundtrack.. Eric Church

  • GADSDEN ALABAMA!!!!

  • Great song

  • As an anti-country and semi-retired Lynyrd Skynyrd fan, I must admit, this is a great song, and Eric Church is a great musician and lyricist.

    • @【 Cas 】 I've never enjoyed it. I like Travis Tritt's cover of Take it Easy. Vince Gill is okay. Reba has talent. and I like What was I thinkin' by Dierks Bentley. And I recognize the greatness of Garth Brooks, but at the same time the whole mentality of I've got friends in low places ... it's not for me.

    • Why are you anti-country music?

  • Absolutely blown away by this song. I mean can anyone really be surprised anymore by this man. The dude just keeps going no matter what.

  • @Eric Church, my brother I did not grow up on a lot of country music but this song really makes me appreciate life. Thank you.

  • Damn church

  • Fabulous feeling music,lolol school with a new twist♥️

  • The lyrics! A song that didn’t need anything big and loud because the lyrics carried the song!

  • And THIS class....is how writing epic song lyrics is done. You are drawn into the story until the end.

  • Need to make this a movie.

  • Love it

  • Love what you're trying to do here Eric but the song doesn't fit with the timeline/ history. When Ronnie was a kid Curtis was an old man with gray hair and the way he's described is that he was a loner, most likely an alcoholic and not exactly one to be fathering kids. And he died before Lynyrd Skynyrd was ever a "thing". Much less show up at a show and meet this woman and then be alive long enough to tell the kid he was his dad. Would have worked much better for me if somehow the man that told him was Curtis Lowe jr and he told him they were brothers or half-brothers or something like that. JMHO keep on rockin'

  • This song is very well written. It brought tears to this skynyrd fan’s eyes

  • I’m not understanding the lyrics as much as all of you are I guess. Is this Eric Church’s attempt at being “woke” in today’s world? Clearly the song is about Lynyrd Skynyrd and the lead singer Curtis Loew. But he sings the kid is between black and white and at the end says a dressed in all black black man stood up to say I’m your daddy and I’m Curtis Loew. So.......Curtis Loew wasn’t a black man. Therefore if he had a kid the kid wouldn’t be half back. WTF?

  • ♥️🎶🇺🇸

  • Dont ask me no questions and i wont tell you no lies. I live by that line sometimes. Thanks Eric. This is by far one of my favorites. Especially when you talk about the blues. That hit hard

  • One of the best to ever do it!

  • I bet this one made RVZ smile up yonder!

  • I’m from Gadsden!!! What great writing

  • Oh my goodness! Just heard this for the first time! Skynyrd fan to the core here and I absolutely love this song! Man, the twist at the end got me ! Daddy Curtis Loew! I read the lyrics before he sang it! 🤯 second best line, Born in 70 somethin between sweet home and you got that right, well done Mr. Church 👊🏻

    • @Sue Beucke is it also reference of some LS song?

    • Don't ask me no questions and I won't tell you no lies!!!!!

  • ❤❤❤🎶🎶🎶🎶

  • I just want to know how he picked lil ole Gadsden Alabama?

    • Thank you I really appreciate for the lovely comment and kind words❤ , I just want to say thank you for the supporting of my music🎵 I hope you won't stop listening to my songs? • Everything about this song is amazing. Being from Gadsden makes it even better. I cried.

  • One of my favorite artists.. NC Legend!

  • what is this song really about? im kinda confused

    • It’s really about ripping off Skynyrd for money. Total ridiculous piece of shit.

  • This guy... pure gold

  • Made this ol man's eye leak! Well done sir! Would have enjoyed another couple verses, about what happened after the funeral. Well done sir!

    • I’d like to make the other one leak you stupid old fart. I’m a big Skynyrd fan and I just don’t get it. This was nothing but a rip-off from that good old tune that was totally fiction. So Church bastardized a good piece of fiction with a terrible piece of fiction and traps Skynyrd fans into buying it and lining his pockets with their stupidity. The fund ass phone is ringing and I’m pretty sure it’s for you.

    • Thanks super fan😘

  • Damn it’s good like all the others and sad to the story line behind

  • Eric Church is the ABSOLUTE BEST that New Country has to offer !! Hands ⬇

  • Dang bro..the best songwriting I’ve seen. It’s a shame 99% of those who hear this will not be able to truly appreciate how freaking awesome this was written. Keep em coming bro.

  • I love this one

  • I love this Eric church

  • You have got to be fucking kidding. This is about the cheesiest rip off I have ever wasted my time listening too.I have plenty of kin in Gadsden and I’m pretty sure they would agree. I also met RVZ in summer school when I was 13 years old and stayed in touch till he got killed. I knew the rest of them except Steve Gaines and I bet they would agree with me. All that song proved was Church could mash up a bunch of words to write a song that sparsely provided words and a subject that we got familiar with all those years ago. He took all those words names and people from an Icon of southern rock and somehow is trying to make it count in his career. What a pathethic scab on the ass of Southern Rock tribute songs.I would like to know what Gary Rossington or Gene Odom thinks about this audible pile of horse dung. Why would anyone besmirch that band like that? There are plenty of you dumb turds that think this is some sort of masterpiece.Get woke. By the way Curtis is a real name but they took the name from “Lowe’s Normandy”drive in theatre which was about a mile from where the Vanzant’s lived.”Curtis Lowe” was no black man either, he was a Jew from the south side of Jacksonville Fl. Oh, and another fact “Lynyrd Skynyrd” did not come from a high school coach, that was a coincidence, it actually came from a song by Allen Sherman named Camp Greneda released in 1965. He was also Jewish. Put some facts in the next pile of shit you write for all yer lyttyle fans.

  • There is no talent here whatsoever the guitar could be taught to an 8 year old in an hour. Dont name a song after skynyrd if its 3 chord bullshit. Allen Collins was one of the best guitarists ever and he is never paid homage. The slide guitar in the ballad of curtis leow took more soul and work than this silver spoon hicks entire career

  • Wow badass song

  • Great music as always!!!

  • Mr. Church you certainly have a way with words, as well as pulling those heart strings... 🤘♥🔥

  • Go Eric 💗🤠
